Every student accepted to participate in the Student Exchange Programme is eligible to receive an HKBU Exchange Sponsorship.

EDB Subsidy Scheme for Student Exchange Programme
The Education Bureau (EDB) has offered the Scheme for Subsidy on Exchange (SSE) to support the financially needy students to participate in the Student Exchange Programme since 2015.  In addition, EDB has recently introduced the Scheme for Subsidy on Exchange to “Belt and Road” Regions (SSEBR) to encourage students in need to go on exchange in the “Belt and Road” (B&R) regions. Scholarships


(a) Scholarships offered through the International Office

With the generous support of our donors, there are a number of merit-based and/or need-based scholarships available to eligible students.

List of Available Scholarships

To be considered for any of these scholarships, you must be an eligible applicant and fulfill the following requirements and conditions:

- Excellent scholastic ability (cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above at the time of application and at the conclusion of the semester prior to the beginning of an exchange);
- A good TOEFL/IELTS score (i.e. a TOEFL/IELTS score above the minimum requirement);
- Strong leadership skills;
- Outstanding records of extra-curricular activities as well as community and voluntary services;
- A well-rounded personality;
- Willingness to contribute to HKBU and to the community;
- Proven financial needs (a criterion for some but not all scholarships); and
- Your application must be supported by your Head of Department/Programme Director.

In support of your scholarship application, please upload and submit the following documents:

  • A personal statement in 500 words in English to convince us why you should be awarded a scholarship (for ALL scholarship applicants); and/or
  • A personal statement in 500 words in Chinese to convince us why you should be awarded a scholarship (if ALL your exchange destinations are in Mainland China and/or Taiwan); and/or
  • Government grant/load approval letter for 2016/17 (for students with financial needs).

Notes:
- Qualified students will be invited to attend a panel interview during 20 January - 17 February 2017.
- All of the scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis and subject to the availability of funds. Certain scholarships may not be available every year.
- Students are only entitled to receive one scholarship at Hong Kong Baptist University.

University Low-Interest Loan

The University offers a low-interest loan (at 2.5% interest per annum) to students experiencing financial hardship. Full-time Government-funded undergraduate students, who are Hong Kong permanent residents, are eligible to apply.

The loan will be paid back in 36 installments after graduation, or in one lump sum upon withdrawal from the University or if fail to complete the exchange programme.

The minimum loan amount is HK$5,000. For any loan amount above HK$5,000, it should be in multiples of HK$1,000. The maximum loan amount cannot exceed the amount as specified in the table below.

Students who wish to apply for the University low-interest loan should complete and submit the following forms together with their Exchange Sponsorship/Scholarship disbursement documents to the International Office:

Government Grants and Loans

According to the Student Financial Assistance Agency (of the Government of the HKSAR), students who have the right of abode in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (Hong Kong) or have resided or have had their home in Hong Kong continuously for three complete years prior to the commencement of the publicly-funded study programme are eligible for the government grants and loans while participating in the Programme.

Conditions for the Exchange Sponsorship and the University Low-Interest Loan

(a) Students must engage in full-time studies and credit-bearing courses during the exchange period.
(b) Students who fail to complete the exchange programme or withdraw from the University are required to repay immediately the sponsorship (and the loan, if applicable).
(c) Full-time Government-funded undergraduate students, who have proven financial needs and who are Hong Kong permanent residents, are eligible to apply for the University low-interest loan.


6. Disbursement

The exchange sponsorship/scholarship/University low-interest loan will be credited to students' bank accounts recorded in the University Information System "UIS" prior to their departure. To facilitate the autopay process, students are required to complete and submit the Undertaking Form for Sponsorship/Scholarship with a copy of HKBU student ID card, HKID card, visa/entry permit to the host country and documentary proof of departure (round trip travel itinerary and/or flight/train/vessel tickets).
