An Acquired Taste: Spreading My Comfort Zone from Zhuhai to Wollongong
Much like Vegemite, stepping into a new culture can feel intense and overwhelming at first bite. Yet, it is precisely by trying the unfamiliar that we completely transform our perspective. My journeys through BNBU and the University of Wollongong taught me to embrace things that once seemed entirely outside my comfort zone.

The First Bite: Cultural Immersion at BNBU
Before arriving in Zhuhai, my anxieties about weak Mandarin and tough academics felt like tasting something completely foreign. However, I learned that adaptation simply requires the braveness to try. I pushed past language barriers to connect with patient locals and embraced the city’s slow-paced beach lifestyle. From navigating Mainland China’s advanced digital ecosystem to finding my voice alongside active international classmates, my time at BNBU proved that initial discomfort often leads to the most rewarding discoveries.

Developing the Palate: Transformation in Australia
When I later arrived at Wollongong, I expected Australia to feel culturally distant. Instead, I discovered a vibrant, multicultural society where strong Asian communities blended seamlessly with Western traditions—a unique, balanced mix that made me feel instantly welcomed. Academically, courses like Creative Writing pushed me to think outside the box and find my voice.

By the time I finally tasted actual Vegemite with my new Australian friends, I realized something profound: the things we hesitate to try often become the experiences we treasure most. Both programs shaped me into a braver, more flexible global citizen, ready for any new flavor life brings.
