Eligibility & Academics
All publicly-funded HKBU undergraduates. We particularly welcome Direct Year Entry and Final-Year students.
Yes! Consider this your "Last Call" or the ultimate graduation trip, a final chance to travel with purpose before starting your career.
Most students can transfer credits to reduce their semester workload. Direct Year Entry students may transfer a maximum of 16 units.
Final-year students are not eligible for credit transfers, and the experience will not be recorded on your HKBU transcript.
The Application Process
No. HKBU does not require interviews or an internal selection process. You simply choose your preferred programme and apply directly to the host institution.
However, once accepted by the host university, you must complete the mandatory Summer Abroad Participation Form. This form must be submitted to the International Office at least three weeks before your programme commences.
Explore the “Where To Go?” database, featuring over 300 programmes in 40+ countries, from elite universities to unique cultural experiences.
Durations are flexible, ranging from 2 to 8 weeks to suit your summer plans.
Apply and settle all fees directly with your chosen host institution.
Absolutely. We encourage "Shared Adventures". Plan your trip with friends to study and travel together.
Financial Support
Sponsorship (Guaranteed): This is a base-level grant available to all eligible students who meet the minimum requirements (cGPA 2.0+ and a 14-day programme).
Scholarship (Competitive): This is a higher-value award based on merit (at least cGPA 2.8) and a longer programme duration (at least 4 weeks). These are limited and awarded after a review process.
Yes, although this depends on the funding source. You may receive the HKBU Summer Programme Sponsorship alongside either the HKBU Summer Programme Scholarship or the First-Generation University Student Fund (SA), provided you meet the criteria for both.
However, you cannot "double-claim" from the International Office and the Language Centre. You must choose either one.
Bonus Incentives
The HK$1,500 bonus for selected programmes is an additional incentive and is not considered a double-claim. You may receive this on top of your other sponsorship or scholarship awards.
You must have a minimum cGPA of 2.0 and your programme must last at least 14 days.
No. The sponsorship is awarded only once during your university studies for a single summer programme.
Full-time HKBU students with a cGPA of 2.8 or above are eligible. The summer programme must be credit-bearing and last at least 4 weeks.
Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis. The International Office (INTL) reviews applications based on cGPA, summer abroad transcripts, and priority is given to final-year students and those with demonstrated financial need.
The bonus badge
is a visual indicator used to highlight specific, featured programmes that offer an additional HK$1,500 in financial support.
Only programmes displaying this badge qualify for the bonus incentive. While many of these featured programmes are at least four weeks in duration, the badge itself is the definitive factor for eligibility.
This HK$1,500 can be received on top of your other sponsorship or scholarship awards.
Disbursement of Funds & Documents
There are two important deadlines to remember:
Before you depart: You must complete the mandatory Summer Abroad Participation Form and submit it to the International Office at least three weeks before your programme commences.
After you return: All required documentation for fund disbursement must be submitted to the International Office (INTL) no later than 15 September 2026. Funds cannot be disbursed for late submissions.
