Turkish Delight

Turkish delight, “Lokum” in Turkish, is one of the oldest sweets in the world, going back almost 500 years. In the past, this soft-textured dessert was made with honey and molasses, but in time, sugar and starch started to be used. You can sweeten your palate with a wide range of flavors such as pistachio, rose, walnut, and pomegranate. It will be hard to leave Grand Bazaar without a couple of boxes for your loved ones and yourself!

Did you know...

Intriguing story behind Turkish Delight was created?

As legend has it, the first Turkish Delight was actually created three centuries ago, when Abdul Hamid, the 27th Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, faced a problem far greater than his ill-fated skirmishes with the Russians – how to keep his four wives happy.  So he ordered his confectioner to create a delicious and intoxicating sweet guaranteed to appease and seduce the reluctant ladies.
