Turkish Spoon Dance

 

Spoon Dance, “Kaşık Oyunu” in Turkish, is the most popular dance in Central Anatolia, originated from Silifke in Southern Turkey.

 

In the first part of dance, the dancers’ hand movement represent the women’s daily work of making yogurt or milk. In second part, dancers carry a pair of varnished wooden spoons in each hand, one of which is inserted between thumb and forefinger and the other between the middle and ring finger, they click their spoons in traditional style to celebrate the wedding ceremony.
