Now unthinkable in most countries, 50-storeys high bamboo scaffoldings filled with construction workers are a common sight across Hong Kong. Used for centuries in building landmarks such as the Great Wall of China, it’s only in Hong Kong that this daring technique – listed as part of the city’s intangible cultural heritage – remains the primary methodology of building skyscrapers and traditional Chinese Theatre.
