Exchange to Japan, UK

From: Hong Kong

Abroad adventure leads to the Greatest Harvest!

Allow me to share my exchange experiences in Japan and the UK. My name is Cathy, and since I was young, I have been living with cerebellar atrophy, which requires me to use a wheelchair on a daily basis. Despite this, I have always had a burning desire to explore the world.

My First Adventure in Japan

Last year, I embarked on my very first study abroad adventure at International Christian University in Japan for a semester. While those around me expressed concerns, I was determined to gain the experience of living abroad and taking care of myself. I spent four incredible months in Japan, and my time there was nothing short of wonderful. During my time there, I had the opportunity to collaborate with the host institution, connecting with the SEN group in Japan and organizing a forum between Disabled Peoples' International (DPI-Japan) and CareER of Hong Kong. We engaged in meaningful discussions about SEN development in both places, shared best practices and explored future collaborations. This experience not only enriched my personal journey but also paved the way for future collaborations and global events. It was truly a transformative and impactful experience for me.

Continuous Journey: Having Fun in UK

Inspired by this incredible adventure, upon returning from Japan, I immediately started planning my next journey. With graduation looming, I seized the opportunity to participate in a Summer Programme, eager to have one final study abroad experience. As a devoted fan of Harry Potter, I had always dreamt of visiting London, so I enrolled in a summer programme at the University of the Arts London in the UK. Having already gained the experience of living abroad in Japan, I felt more confident about traveling alone. I spent two months in the UK, exploring London and the surrounding cities. Along the way, I forged meaningful connections and made numerous friends. It was an unforgettable summer filled with incredible memories.
