Flowers in the Netherlands

The Netherlands is globally recognized for its iconic, vibrant flowers. They’re not just a source of national pride but also a significant part of the Dutch cultural heritage and economy. This connection with flowers, particularly tulips, dates back to the 17th century, during the period known as the Dutch Golden Age. This era saw the country’s art, science, trade, and – most notably – the tulip industry flourish. The “tulip mania”, as it was called, was a time when tulips became so popular that their bulbs were worth more than gold!

Is tulip the national flower of the Netherlands?

In 2023, the daisy was declared the national flower of the Netherlands, following a vote in which 53,000 listeners of the radio programme Vroege Vogels participated.
